Initial Impressions

Finding a pair of pants that works for hiking, everyday wear, and the office without feeling out of place in any of those settings can be a challenge. After three months with the Stio Men's Pinedale Roam Pant, I’ve found them to be a comfortable and versatile option that handles each of those uses well. The clean styling and quality construction makes them easy to wear just about anywhere, while the stretch fabric and water resistance add useful performance for time outdoors.  I tested the Pinedale Roam in Cowboy Coffee, size 38 Regular, wearing them for hiking, office days, and casual use. The regular cut offers a straight leg without feeling baggy, and the fabric has a soft feel with enough stretch to move naturally. They do run a little warmer than pants made from lighter fabrics, but I never found them uncomfortable during my testing in temperatures ranging from the mid 50s to the 80s.

Design, Comfort & Fit

The Pinedale Roam has a straightforward design that works well across different settings. The regular cut provides room to move without excess fabric, and the straight leg gives the pants a clean appearance. They look appropriate for the office and casual outings while still feeling right at home on the trail.

Fit has been excellent for me. The size 38 Regular worked well, and the length was right for my usual 32 inch inseam. The waistband is comfortable and doesn't feel restrictive. The softshell fabric offers moderate stretch, which makes a noticeable difference when hiking, bending, and squatting. The inside has a nicely brushed finish that feels soft and comfortable without adding excessive bulk. I never felt restricted by the material, and the pants remained comfortable whether I was moving around outdoors or sitting through a day at the office.

The pockets are well placed and easy to access. Both the front and rear pockets are useful for carrying everyday essentials, and my phone fits in either location. The zippered pocket on the right thigh provides a handy place to stash smaller items securely. The YKK® zippers operate smoothly and feel well suited to regular use. The pants have a clean, polished look and feel well made. These have already become a regular part of my wardrobe.

Performance

Over three months of use, the Pinedale Roam has proven to be a versatile everyday pant with useful outdoor performance. I wore them hiking, around the office, and for casual activities, and they felt comfortable in each setting. The stretch fabric moves naturally with the body, while the regular cut avoids the restrictive feel that can come with a slimmer pant.
Breathability is good, although these aren't as airy as pants made from lighter fabrics. They offer a bit more warmth than lighter pants while remaining comfortable in the conditions I tested. They would also be a good option for crisp fall days and temperatures above freezing, when a little extra warmth is welcome compared with lighter pants.  The fabric provides useful water resistance, handling light rain and splashes well during my testing. While I haven't tested them in a downpour, they've held up well to the occasional moisture encountered during everyday wear and outdoor activities.

One particularly useful feature is the fabric's wrinkle resistance. The pants maintain a clean appearance without requiring much fuss, making them easy to wear for work, travel, or everyday errands. Combined with their comfortable fit and practical water resistance, this makes them a low maintenance option that doesn't require much thought once they're in regular rotation.

Care and Maintenance

Care has been simple. I've washed the pants on a delicate cycle and dried them on low heat, with no issues. After three months of use and regular care, I haven't noticed any pilling, visible wear, or other signs of deterioration. Their wrinkle resistant fabric and straightforward care routine make them easy to maintain which is a HUGE positive for me.

Closing Thoughts

The Stio Pinedale Roam Pant has become an easy choice for days when I want one pair of pants that can handle several different activities. The comfortable fit, moderate stretch, useful pocket layout, wrinkle resistance, and water resistance make them practical for hiking and everyday wear, while the clean styling means they don't look out of place at the office.

The fabric provides a good balance of comfort and breathability for everyday wear and outdoor activities. While not as lightweight as some pants, they remained comfortable in the conditions I tested.  The pants remain comfortable across a range of settings, and their combination of everyday style, outdoor functionality, and low maintenance care is their biggest strength.

If you're looking for a well made, versatile pair of pants that works just as well on the trail as it does at the office or for everyday wear, the Stio Men's Pinedale Roam Pant is a great option.
