Fit

I’m a women’s size medium on the Marmot size guide.  The Marmot Women's Revlo Insulated Hybrid Jacket fits me true to size.  The bottom hem hits me at the widest part of my hips for moderate backside coverage. The sleeves are also a good length.  The overall fit is slimmer, with the intent to fit like an athletic fit.  I still have room for layering (thick baselayer), but if you want more room for layering, you may want to size up.

Function

I’ve been wearing the Marmot Women's Revlo Insulated Hybrid Jacket as a daily jacket on cooler days as well as taking it along on cool evening walks.

Out of the jackets in my gear collection, the Revlo is most similar to the Cotopaxi Capa, with insulation at the chest and back and a grid fleece for the sides and sleeves.  I prefer the Marmot version for it’s more subtle styling and the interior grid fleece texture.

Insulated hybrid jackets are a versatile piece to have in your closet.  They’re perfect as outerwear on days where it’s colder and you need a bit of protection from the elements.  They are great for active pieces – I’ve been finding this jacket is ideal for cool (45 degree) evening walks.  And they make great layering pieces, allowing for a warmer core without bulk, easily fitting beneath rain or show shells.

The 40g PrimaLoft® Silver insulation is just the right amount for me for temperatures in the 40s to 50s. I’ve been doing a lot of jacket testing (primarily evening walks in cool temperatures) and the Marmot Women's Revlo Insulated Hybrid Jacket is the only one where I don’t overheat when temperatures are in the 50s.  These are the kind of walks where it’s a little (to a lot) windy and you need a little layer to keep the chill away.

The stretchy grid fleece is different from a lot of other grid fleeces I’ve tested.  It’s not as soft – but that’s not a bad thing.  One annoyance I have of fleece jackets is how the interior sleeve texture is fuzzy; as you put the jacket on, the fleece grabs your shirt sleeve and drags the sleeve up as you put the jacket on.  Invariably, I have to take my arm out, hold onto the sleeve, then put the jacket on.  The grid fleece of the Marmot Women's Revlo Insulated Hybrid Jacket is a little stiffer – or less soft – and it easily slides over my shirtsleeve.  Not to scare people away - the Revlo’s grid fleece is soft enough to feel good against the skin if you have a short sleeve shirt on.

The wind proofing of the Marmot Women's Revlo Insulated Hybrid Jacket is excellent.  The sleeves have just enough weight to them to keep the chill out, while the chest and back 20D 100% recycled nylon shell do a great job of keeping the chill away without being too hot.

The collar zips up to chin level and is comfortable against the skin.  The diameter, when zipped up, is also comfortable, with enough room to tuck my chin inside if I need a little extra warmth.

The two side hand pockets are well sized, as is the interior zip up chest pocket.  The zipper pulls are well sized and easy to operate, even with gloves on.

The thumb straps are the only area where I scratch my head. Instead of building in thumbholes into the grid fleece cuff, Marmot opted to sew in a ¼ inch fabric strap to the cuff.  The result is that the strap is a little stiff the sleeve is more anchored at your wrist, versus extending to your knuckles for warmth.  This is only slightly annoying and doesn’t take away from the overall versatility and quality of the jacket.

Closing Thoughts

The Marmot Women's Revlo Insulated Hybrid Jacket is a versatile option that’s worth considering for your active insulation needs.  It’s great as a stand alone jacket and is more than capable for active insulation as well as a mid-layer for warmth.
